2010 BrANCH Conference at Jurys Inn, Liverpool, 8-10 October
You are invited to attend the BrANCH annual conference at Jurys Inn, Liverpool from 8-10 October 2010 (Friday to Sunday). A registration form and details of the draft programme are attached. Jurys Inn is a new hotel, superbly located adjacent to Liverpool’s historic Albert Dock complex which includes the International Slavery Museum. For further details, see the hotels’ website at http://liverpoolhotels.jurysinns.com/ RegistrationPlease note that we have reserved a limited number of rooms at Jurys Inn, so we urge you to respond as quickly as possible to this invitation. The all-inclusive conference charge for residents covers the conference fee, bed and breakfast, morning coffee, lunch, afternoon tea, a wine reception, and dinner for each of two days, from 2pm on Friday 8th to 2pm on Sunday 10th. All the hotel rooms have two beds so sharing is an option. See below for the respective costs. The non-resident charge covers all of the above except for bed and breakfast. Non-residents will be responsible for finding their own accommodation, but note that Liverpool is a busy city and that there are other competing conferences and events during that weekend. We are asking as usual that you pay the full conference charge upon registration. This request is administratively convenient but this year is also governed by the fact that Jurys Inn, with whom we have negotiated a very competitive bed and breakfast rate, requires that we pay for the conference in advance. Note the heavy late-registration fee! The all-inclusive conference charges are:
Please note that, over and above the conversion rate, we have to charge an additional $/C$15 for those choosing to pay with US or Canadian cheques (included in the amount stated above). This merely recoups the cost the bank charges BrANCH. Sterling cheques incur no extra payment. The whole conference sum will be returned to you in the event that you have to withdraw, with a small deduction to cover administrative expenses and a larger deduction if you withdraw too late for us to cancel all the arrangements made for you at Jurys Inn. We are liable to pay substantial costs if rooms are not cancelled six weeks before the conference. Note also that we can cannot compensate for missed meals as we are liable for the full cost. Conference attendees are also invited to join BrANCH. A membership form is attached. BursariesWe are able to offer a limited number of bursaries to UK-registered graduate students and those seeking their first post. Delegates receiving a bursary will pay only £125. We will ask resident bursars to share twin rooms. If you wish to apply for a bursary, please indicate on the registration form, attached, and send a cheque for £125. We will confirm if your application has been successful by the end of August. TransportationWe will be sending out further details about transportation to and in Liverpool. Transatlantic visitors should note that the nearest airports are Liverpool John Lennon and Manchester. The hotel is 8 miles from Liverpool John Lennon airport. Liverpool Lime Street Railway Station is a short taxi ride from the hotel, or a well-signed 20 minute walk through the city centre. Accommodation before and after the conferenceDelegates requiring extra accommodation should contact Jurys Inn directly. Please indicate if booking that you are staying with the BrANCH conference for the Friday and Saturday nights. We very much hope to see you in Liverpool in October, and urge you to return the registration form and your payment now. With best wishes Martin Crawford |
